About: Dr. Sourav Chandra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering and Head of the Neurorobotics Laboratory at Indian Institute of Technology Indore.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Chandra was Associate research Scientist at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, Chicago (Former Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) and jointly held positions in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University, Chicago. At SRALAB he worked at Single Motor Unit Laboratory with Prof. W. Z. Rymer.
Dr. Chandra have finished his doctoral studies at Indian Institute of Technology Madras under Prof. T. Asokan in the area of medical robotics and his masters in the area of Biomedical Engineering from Jadavpur University.
Dr. Chandra has received several national and international awards including Sarah Baskin Research Award (SRALAB), Tata innovation award (Tata Sons).
Fellowship: ARRT Fellowship (NIDILRR, Northwestern University)
European Union Erasmus Fellowship (INRIA, LIRMM-University of Montpellier).
Research Background: Dr. Chandra works in the are of neuromuscular control of muscle contraction and movements in health and diseases. He used engineering methods in upper arm. His doctoral thesis was on detection and analysis of fatigue induced hand tremor in robotic surgery. He has also worked in pathological hand tremors, as a part of his masters research in Jadavpur University.
