Baja SAE conducts events around the world including India, USA, China, Brazil, South Africa and Korea. The objective of the competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges.
eBAJA is one of the intercollegiate design competitions run by the Society of Automotive Engineers. All entries in this category run on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. This was a new initiative introduced in 2014 on the counsel of former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, in order to promote greener mobility. eBAJA SAE India is a step ahead in the gradual liberalization of the automobile sector in India. It is the strong approach towards shaping the future direction of the auto industry so as to promote and achieve sustainable growth. It is the first of its kind competition throughout the world.
Technical Evaluation
Technical inspection consists of 3 separate stages and will issue 3 stickers after the completion of each of those stages. The Format is issued to all teams, and is carried for technical evaluation. The timing data per attempt and No. of attempts are monitored. The same data sheet is finally submitted to technical committee while issuing 3rd and final sticker of ‘Tech OK’.
Engineering Deign Event
To evaluate the engineering effort that went into the design of the vehicle and how the engineering meets the intent of the market. Students are judged on the creation of design specifications and the ability to meet those specifications, computer aided drafting, analysis, testing and development, manufacturability, serviceability, system integration and how the vehicle works together as a whole.
Cost event
Cost Event consists of two related sections: Cost Report and Prototype Cost. The cost report provides all the background information to verify the vehicle’s actual cost. The prototype cost is the actual cost and the points related thereto.
Sales Presentation Event
The objective of the Presentation is for the team to convince the “executives” of a hypothetical manufacturing company to purchase the team’s Baja SAE India vehicle design and put it into production at the rate of 4000 units per year.
Acceleration
The Acceleration Event is designed to measure each vehicle’s ability to come up to speed quickly from a standing start. Acceleration is measured as the time to complete a 30.48 m (100 ft) or 45.72 m (150 ft) flat, straight course from a standing start.
Hill-Climb or Traction event
To measure each vehicle’s ability to transmit excess (climbing) force to the ground. If local terrain does not support a significant Hill Climb, a Sled Pull Event is substituted, usually involving pulling an excess load. This event tests the vehicle’s relative ability to climb an incline from a standing start or pull a designated object
Maneuverability Event
Maneuverability is designed to assess each vehicle’s handling ability over typical Baja terrain. The course may consist of a variety of challenges, possibly including tight turns, pylon maneuvers, ruts and bumps, drop-offs, sand, rocks, gullies, logs, and inclines.
Suspension and Traction
To assess each vehicle’s suspension design and traction ability over typical Baja terrain. The course may consist of a variety of challenges, possibly including steep climbs, pylon maneuvers, bumps, drop-offs, sand, rocks, gullies, logs etc.
Endurance
Assesses each vehicle’s ability to operate continuously and at speed over rough terrain containing obstacles in any weather conditions.
