Learning from IITGN Library: IIT Gandhinagar library has bestowed on me a plethora of opportunities. During my tenure at IITGN Library, I have had opportunities to learn large number of things from the scratch. I understood how a typical library should be and how library professionals should reach out to users in addressing their queries. I got to know various types of library services, in detail, Circulation Services, Reference Services, Collection development, Technical Services, Electronic resource /management, Scholarly communication, Promoting/marketing the use of Library resources & Services and so on. I got hands on experience on various state of the art library technologies like KOHA, Dspace and CORAL. I learned about various citation databases and had a glimpse of research publication data. The main source of learning for me was the brainstorming sessions, assignments and weekly presentations. Last but not least, the guidance given by Dr. T.S. Kumbar and the whole library team helped me in shaping my library career.

Life after IITGN

Sakthivel is an enthusiastic information professional with a keen interest in emerging trends and innovations in Library and Information Science. He holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking from Pondicherry Central University, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications from Pondicherry University. He began his career as a Library Professional Trainee at IIT Gandhinagar, where he gained comprehensive hands-on experience in key library operations, including book acquisition, technical processing, institutional repository management, RFID-enabled circulation systems, and user reference services.

In his previous role as a Library Assistant at the Jio Institute Digital Library, Sakthivel demonstrated a strong commitment to user service while effectively managing various library platforms and day-to-day functions. He currently serves as a Library Information Assistant at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. In this role, he is responsible for managing print resources, multimedia collections, library websites, and subject guides while continuing to contribute actively to the development and accessibility of academic information services.

Interest in LIS Field: Green libraries, collection development, Institutional repositories, Institutional archives, and Scholarly communication are a reflection of his passion for the field and his dedication to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements and trends in Library and Information Science
