The Department of Chemistry at IIT Gandhinagar has steadily grown in faculty strength (Currently 12), research infrastructure, and overall research directions. We are engaged in fundamental and applied research across diverse areas such as nanoplasmonics, electrochemistry, catalysis, nanobiotechnology, main group chemistry, drug discovery, asymmetric synthesis, organic and macrocyclic fluorescent materials, and computational materials and methodology.
Our academic programs include Ph.D. and 2-year M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry alongside various interdisciplinary and undergraduate courses. In a highly collaborative research setting, we aim to broaden our research horizons, deepen our knowledge, and support the country's development by nurturing young students.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport serves the city's domestic and international traffic. The airport connects the city with destinations across India and to cities in the Middle East and the Far East, as well as select destinations in Western Europe. There are more than 6 flights daily to Mumbai and Delhi – which are the main international air gateways in and out of India. Delhi is 1.5 hours away by air, and Mumbai is 50 minutes. Daily flights are also available for Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata.
