This intensive 4-hour (9:00-13:00) workshop is broken down into five focused parts to provide a comprehensive, hands-on experience.

Part 1: Introduction to AI in Libraries
A quick overview of how AI is transforming library services, with a live demo of AI-powered tools.[Slides]
Part 2: Hands-On Session 1 – AI-Powered Search & Recommendation
Learn how AI enhances search and book recommendations by building a simple recommendation system using Python & the LLM APIs.[Colab Notebook]
Part 3: Hands-On Session 2 – Building a Library Chatbot
Create a basic chatbot for library queries using the ChatGPT API and Python to handle user support and FAQs.[Colab Notebook]
Part 4: Hands-On Session 3 – AI for Digital Archiving & OCR
Use Tesseract OCR in Python to extract text from scanned documents, and then perform text cleaning, summarization, and metadata tagging with AI.[Colab Notebook]
Part 5: Wrap-up & Q&A
The goal of this workshop is to provide library professionals with practical, hands-on experience in building AI applications. Attendees can expect to leave with the fundamental skills to create AI-powered tools for search, user assistance, and digital archiving.
Requirements: A laptop with Python installed (or Google Colab) and basic familiarity with Python scripts.
The Speaker 🧑💻
Dr. Mayank Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar, where he leads the LINGO Research Group. His primary research interests include Indic Large Language Models (LLMs), Multimodal AI, Scholarly AI, Interpretable and Explainable AI, and Code-Mixed NLP.
