Dr. Sai Ram Boggavarapu
Assistant Professor
Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering
IIT Dharwad
I am currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIT Dharwad. Before joining here, I worked as a Global Support Engineer at COMSOL Multiphysics Pvt. Ltd. In this organisation, I provided technical support to customers, colleagues, and distributors worldwide. I have mainly focused on the Multiphysics Finite Element (FE) analysis of Low-frequency magnetic components like Rotating Machines, Transformers, etc. Along with this, I also worked on simulations related to Plasma reactors and Semiconductor devices.
My Ph.D. thesis focuses on deriving magneto-mechanical hysteresis models and formulations to model the anisotropic behaviour of grain-oriented materials used in power transformers. The developed models are implemented in FE formulations. I am well versed with coding platforms like MATLAB and SCILAB, using which I have developed FE codes for electromagnetic problems.
Ongoing Research Projects:
Formulation of Semi-Analytical formulations to determine the performance characteristics of electric motors.
Modelling the anisotropic behaviour and rotational magnetic characteristics of steel laminations.
Development of digital twins for condition monitoring of distribution transformers.
Announcement: PhD and Master's theses positions are open for students interested in research on the following topics
Design and analysis of rare-earth-free electrical machines for EV applications
Analysis and modelling of core joints in transformers and electrical machines with segmented cores
Development of magnetic characterisation soft-magnetic materials used in power electronic applications
Development of digital twin technology for condition monitoring of distribution transformers
