Officers of the GSAC-MMAE

The officers of this organization shall be the President, Vice President, and Treasurer. The officers must be full time students in good academic and behavioral standing with the university.

President duties:

● Preside at meetings.

● Vote only in case of a tie.

● Represent the club.

● Appoint committee chairpersons subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.

● Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee.

● Perform such other duties as ordinarily pertaining to this office.


Vice-President duties:

● Preside in the absence of the President.

● Serve as chairperson of the Program Committee.

● Issue notices of meetings and conduct the general correspondence of the club.

● Record the minutes of all meetings.

● Keep a file of the club’s records.

● Maintain a current roster of membership.


Treasurer duties:

● Receive all funds and process Request for Payment, Deposit Slip, and Officer

Signature Forms

● Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and make reports

as directed


-The term of office for the officers will be three semesters.

Who we are


King Ankobea-Ansah, President


King Longdon Ankobea-Ansah hails from Agona Swedru, a southern town in the Central Region of Ghana - West Africa. He holds a BSc. Aerospace Engineering degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST ’17) in Ghana. He is currently a PhD candidate in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Tech, working under the supervision of Professor Carrie M. Hall. His research work focuses on the Modeling and Control of Advanced Fuel-Flexible Multi-Cylinder Engines. King joined GSAC as a member in 2018 and in 2020, he served as the Secretary and student liaison to the MMAE Inclusion & Diversity committee. He is currently the president of GSAC. Aside doing research, King likes to play soccer, and listen to music!


Tinu Vellamattathil Baby, Treasurer

Tinu Vellamattathil Baby is a PhD student of mechanical engineering at Illinois Tech with her research focused on the prediction and control of connected and automated vehicles. She is from India and is the current treasurer of GSAC. She has served GSAC as vice president and president in previous years and enjoyed collaborating with students to help them attend conferences and organizing and attending social events.

Tinu loves photography and traveling apart from research.

Basile Salomon, Vice-President

Basile C. Salomon is a French student that moved to Chicago in August 2021 to pursue a dual MSc in

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Tech. Basile did his undergrad and his first year of grad school at the Higher Institute of Aeronautics and Space – ISAE-ENSMA – in France. At IIT, his research focuses on heat transfer and more specifically on Modeling and Optimization of Power-Plant Cooling Tower Systems using Physics-Based and Neural-Network Based Models under the supervision of Prof. Sumanta Acharya. Basile joined the GSAC in November 2022 as Vice-President. On his free time, Basile loves traveling, going to the movies, working out, walking around the city and discovering new restaurants and cafes.

Dr. Ankit Srivastava, Faculty Adviser

Dr. Ankit Srivastava is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering department at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He holds a B.Tech. from IIT Guwahati, and M.S. and Ph.D. (Structural Engineering) from the University of California San Diego where he also worked with Prof. Sia Nemat-Nasser as a post-doctoral researcher. Srivastava has received the NSF CAREER award and is currently an Associate Editor of the Mechanics of Materials journal. Srivastava's research interest are in the areas of wave propagation, homogenization theory, phononics and metamaterials, soft robotics, and, recently, PINN based methods for wave problems.
