Fred J. Hickernell
I have enjoyed mathematics since I was a child and received a BA in mathematics and in physics from Pomona College in 1977 and a PhD in (applied) mathematics from Massachussetts Institute of Technology in 1981. Since 2005, I have been serving at Illinois Tech, having served previously at University of Southern California and Hong Kong Baptist University. My research straddles computational mathematics and statistics. Because I enjoy facilitating the success of others, I have enjoyed mentoring students and early career colleagues. This is also a reason that I have served in academic administration for much of my career.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and children and discussing fundamental questions about life. A favorite verse is Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

What started as a gift from my father; soon became something I would be doing for the rest of my life. Spent my entire childhood competing in mathematics. I soon found myself at Birmingham Southern College and double majored in Mathematics and Computer Science. After graduating, I'm back in Chicago at Illinois Institute of Technology to help find better solutions in integrating high-dimensional functions in Quasi-Monte Carlo.

I am a software engineer that manages post trade capture data for settlement of market data . I define and work with various distributed systems and pipelines to manage post trade data for correctness and enrichment of data such that it means various regulatory requirements and adding apis and user interfaces to assist with QA and front office UI / UX so that we can be more efficient. I have made code contributions to Python and I am interested in two dimentional celular automata (see https://conwaylife.com/wiki/OCA:SnowLife) and knot theory.
