Jerome L. de Silva is best known for his contributions to Sri Lankan theatre, with a theatrical career spanning over 50 years. In 1992, he founded The Workshop Players, which is the largest Sri Lankan theatre company to date. The company is dedicated to promoting and developing new talent in the Sri Lankan theatre industry. He has directed and produced a wide range of productions in Sri Lanka, including traditional plays, contemporary dramas, musicals, and experimental works with over 375 productions to his name. He has also collaborated with international theatre groups and artists, bringing new ideas and approaches to Sri Lanka's theatre scene.

Apart from being recognised for his talents in Sri Lanka, Jerome L. de Silva's artistry has also been appreciated internationally. One prominent instance is when he was a fellow at the Salzburg Seminar, Austria in 1996, in which the Course Faculty included Arthur Miller, Ariel Dorfman, David Thacker, Andre Brink, Benedict Nightingale, and Christopher Bigsby. While in Salzburg, he also participated in Master Classes with Andre Brink and Ariel Dorfman, both Royal National Theatre Actors. His notable fellow actors included Alun Armstrong and Mark Strong.
