Tapabrato Sarkar is an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata since 2018. He is a metamorphic petrologist with special emphasis to petrochronology. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2010, received a PhD from the University of Kiel, Germany and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, before returning to India at IISER Kolkata. He integrates field observations with petrology, thermodynamic modelling, geochemistry and geochronology to understand the evolution of the continental crust during the Precambrian.
His current research interest include ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism and its heat source and behavior of monazites in high-grade metamorphic rocks. He is also interested in understanding the growth of the Precambrian continental crust through petro-geochemical modelling.
