PROBLEM solving seminar

Department of Mathematics, IISER Bhopal

The problem solving seminar aims  to create an environment for undergraduate students to discuss and solve interesting and challenging math problems without the pressures of exams and grades.

An immediate goal of this activity is to foster greater interaction between students across batches and to hopefully convey the sentiment that math can be fun through creative problem solving.

The larger goal is to prepare students for the Simon Marais Mathematics Competition. This is an international undergraduate mathematics competition conducted by an Australian organization every year in October. Last year, one of our fourth-year BS-MS students won a AU$200 prize for being in the top quantile from IISERB. We hope that more of our students will take part in this competition and do well at the international level. Students from across disciplines can participate. There's no requirement that the participant should be a math major.
