me with my "dadu" (grandfather): circa 2005
bf coup d'etat with Mr President: circa 2025
I am a 24 y/o graduate student having my roots in a small village called "Alaipur" situated in the Nadia district of West Bengal.
I did my schooling from Kalyani Springdale School where I spent 15 years (from nursery to 12th). Proudest achievement was scoring 100/100 in Life Sciences in secondary examination only to get 81/100 in higher secondary, I had switched to Computer Science for the first 3 months in 11th and had to switch back to Biology because of the "exceptional" circumstances. poor me :(
It was hard for me to choose between History (a family tradition) and Chemistry (psst... twas for money eh) for my undergraduate degree. Although I chose the latter, I will not think twice if I get a chance to switch tracks.
I received the DST Inspire Fellowship during my undergraduate studies for being among the top 1% in the 10+2 level board exam. (sounds cool? my actual HS percentage was merely 90.40... it's pretty easy to be among the "top" 1%)
I graduated from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College Narendrapur with a three-year BSc (Honours) degree in Chemistry in 2022. I qualified JAM Chemistry with a 314 rank. I was never into Chemistry "proper", liked solving DEs more than drawing curly arrows! barely managed to pass the dreaded Analytical Practical ;)
Based on my rank (and some interviews) I secured admission to IIT Hyderabad, JNCASR Bangalore, IISER Pune, IISER Kolkata and luckily IISc Bangalore. Subsequently I moved to the southern Indian state of Karnataka to pursue Integrated PhD in Chemical Sciences at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Managed to somehow pass my Masters coursework here. Let's see what's next!
Other than "chemistry", I spend my time mostly reading irrelevant stuff (ranging from QED to Marx), learning Klingon (NuqneH!) and German (wie geht's?), scrolling 3blue1brown, Numberphile YouTube playlists or just roaming around the IISc campus. If you're the kind of person who likes having late night strolls discussing physics of matter-waves, BEC or biological hypersurface of gene derived expressions, ping me. I'll pay for your cup of coffee.
I am currently working under the supervision of Prof Vivek Tiwari in the Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit (SSCU) where I am mixing light with matter :)
Conjuring the "dark side" of the force since 2024
