This provision, aiming at making the schooling system in India more inclusive, mandates that all non-minority, unaided private schools reserve 25% of seats in their incoming classes (pre-primary or grade 1) for children belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) or to disadvantaged groups of society. The provision aims at addressing the issue of segregated schooling in the country, wherein access to private schooling is largely determined by socioeconomic advantage of households.
