PARTH T. SONI

Ph.D. Candidate

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA)

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) in the specialisation area - Innovation and Management in Education. This area is affiliated to Ravi J. Matthai Centre for Educational Innovation (RJMCEI).

Prior to joining the Ph.D. programme at IIMA in 2019, I have worked as a Physics teacher in one of the schools in Ahmedabad. While pursuing my undergraduate and graduate studies in Physics, I started tutoring students of grades 11 and 12 in the subjects physics and maths. My interest in teaching grew gradually, and that helped me realise the importance of the role played by teachers and parents in students' achievement and motivation. Exposure of subjects like Research methodology, Educational Psychology, Educational Philosophy, Educational Administration and Leadership, etc, during Masters in Education helped me dwell more towards academic research.

My research interests are inclined broadly in the areas of Educational Measurement and Testing, Large-scale assessments, Quantitative methods in Education, and Educational Psychology. Currently, I am exploring how do different parameters of tests like the timings, difficulty, number of questions, etc, affect the psycho-emotional responses and behaviours of students giving the tests. My goal is to empower teachers with essential assessment tools which can help them tailor their instructional practices accordingly and to improve the high-stakes testing in India.
