'KARYASHALA' is a noble endeavor of Government of India by Science and Engineering Board (SERB) under Accelerate Vigyan Scheme to improve research productivity of promising PG and PhD students from universities and colleges through high-end workshops on specific themes. This program aims to provide opportunities to acquire specialized research skills. These workshops will primarily be facilitated at organizations / institutions / laboratories of national importance. ABV-IIITM Gwalior has decided to be a part of this unique initiative and share our Institutional resources with the society towards higher goals of national importance. Thus, the current workshop has come into being. This event is sponsored by SERB.
About the Workshop
'KARYASHALA' is aimed to provide hands-on experience to the students primarily from universities, colleges, private academic institutions and newly established institutes in handling / troubleshooting of high-end scientific instruments, softwares and such skill development on themes required for research work. The program is meant to support motivated PG and Ph.D. level students, who are having a strong willingness to get excellence in their scientific and engineering research pursuits.
About the theme
Machine learning methods (e.g., deep learning, random forest, support vector machine, Bayesian methods, manifold learning, and artificial neural network) play an essential role in the field of medical imaging and image informatics. With advances in medical imaging, new machine learning methods and applications are demanded. Due to large variation and complexity, it is necessary to learn representations of clinical knowledge from big imaging data for better understanding of health informatics. There are numerous challenges though, including diverse and inhomogeneous inputs, high dimensional features versus inadequate subjects, subtle key pattern hidden by large individual variation, and sometimes an unknown mechanism underlying the disease. Inspired by the challenges and also the chances, more and more people are devoting to the research direction of machine learning in medical imaging nowadays.
Following are the objectives of this high end workshop:
1. To focus on providing an introduction on the impacts of machine learning and deep learning applications for medical imaging.
2 To disseminate the knowledge in the domain of machine learning, deep learning and computer vison.
3 To expose the various developments and the related software tools to reconstruct 3D Medical Models from 2D Imaging Modalities.
4 To empower the participants to understand how machine learning and deep learning can be used to innovate and improve the computer vision applications mainly medical imaging.
5 To focus on exploring various research opportunities and challenges in the field of Medical Processing
List of Sessions:
Trends and opportunities in ML for Medical Imaging.
Probabilistic models for medical imaging.
Image analysis of anatomical structures/functions and lesions;
Computer-aided detection/diagnosis;
Multi-modality fusion for analysis, diagnosis, and intervention;
Medical image reconstruction;
Medical image retrieval;
Molecular/pathologic/cellular image analysis;
Dynamic, functional, and physiologic imaging.
Hands-on training sessions will be delivered with demos of ImageJ, Fiji tools and , Keras, Pytorch libraries.
Who can attend:
Karyashala is open to postgraduate students/research scholars from all Institutes, Colleges and Universities. Preference will be given to the students having interest towards learning advanced topics in medical image processing and learning software related to processing medical images. Total number of seats is limited to 25. The selected eligible participants will be provided with full support in the form of Travel (3AC), stationary, consumables, accommodation, food etc., as per institute norms and on submission of original documents (tickets etc.). The applicants have to submit the NOC (Download Format Link) from the supervisor/HoD/Head of the institute. There is no registration fees.

About ABV-IIITM Gwalior:
ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India is the first IIIT established by Ministry of Human Resource Development (Presently Ministry of Education, Govt. of India), Government of India in 1997. It is an effort by MHRD (Presently Ministry of Education, Govt. of India) towards creating high quality professionals in areas of management and information. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has declared the Institute as “Institute of National Importance” under the act of Parliament. This institute was created for facilitating higher education, research, and consultancy in areas of information technology (IT) and business management. The institute is located on a 150-acre. It is a residential campus; faculty and students live on sprawling green campus. It houses several departmental blocks with academic block houses lecture theatres, seminar halls, library, laboratories and faculty offices, administrative block, an open air theatre, indoor sports complex and the student hostels. There are three hostels for boys and one for girls. The campus has a variety of plants including those with medicinal properties. The Institute campus is wide spread over an area of 150 acres. It has many topographical features, various buildings of different nature with clean and wide roads surrounded by a green belt. The campus area has been broadly divided into different functional zones: (i) institution zone for teaching departments/Labs/administration (ii) residential zone for the faculty and staff (iii) students’ hostel zone. Other amenities on the campus include a guest houses (Visitor’s Hostel, MDPs), a dispensary, shopping Centre, bank (BOI), post office, sports complex, playgrounds, new Tennis courts, Basketball courts, Volleyball courts, open air theatre, central seminar hall, nursery and Cafeteria etc.
