The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati invites submissions for its Research Scholars’ Conclave 2024. The Research Conclave 2024 aims to provide a platform for scholars, researchers, and early career professionals to explore emerging trends on a diverse range of topics within the realms of humanities and social sciences. The conclave is scheduled from 24th & 25th May 2024. The last date for submission of abstracts/extended abstracts is 15th April 2024.
The significance of Humanities and Social Sciences persists as we navigate the complexities of the 21st century. The emergence of new technologies, global interconnectivity, and shifting socio-cultural dynamics have spurred the development of innovative approaches and perspectives in the field of humanities and social sciences. Through this conclave, we aim to explore the exciting and transformative emerging trends in this domain, which will contribute significance in the contemporary academic and non-academic sphere. Recognizing the interconnected nature of our world, humanities, and social sciences scholars are increasingly working together in various interdisciplinary fields to address contemporary issues and engage with diverse perspectives. We are looking for papers related to the following broad areas/interdisciplinary scope:

Eminent speakers will share their insights, providing a comprehensive perspective on contemporary issues and future directions in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Sessions:
The conclave will feature interactive sessions, allowing participants to present their research findings, engage in academic discussions, and receive constructive feedback from peers and experts.
Book of Abstracts:
A book of Abstracts compiling all the selected papers will be published. The Book of Abstracts will serve as valuable insights for the academic community.

We only encourage in-person presentation.
Guideline for co-author: Certificate will be provided only to the presenter and the co-author will be awarded with a token of appreciation only. The presenter should register for presenting paper.
Guideline for co-presenter: Both the presenters should register for presenting in the conclave. Separate certificate of presenter will be provided to the presenters.

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIITG), is delighted to announce the upcoming Research Conclave 2024.
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of IIITG was formally established on 31 March 2016. It currently has eight faculty members who teach various compulsory and elective courses at the undergraduate level in different disciplines of HSS such as English, Linguistics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Political Science. We are expecting papers and extended abstracts from the respective disciplines.
This signature event is a testament to IIITG's commitment to fostering a vibrant intellectual community, promoting interdisciplinary research, and facilitating meaningful academic exchanges.

Economics:
(Associate Professor, Department of HSS, IIIT Guwahati)
Dr. Choudhury did his Master degree in Economics with specialization in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from Dibrugarh University and received his Ph. D. from IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal in 2014. The title of his thesis is "Economic viability and farmers adoption of Jatropha plantation in North East India." He has joined IIIT Guwahati on 26th December 2014.
Area of Interest: He is working on areas related to the issues of Health Economics, Experimental Economics (RCT) and Development Economics. His research works are applied in nature. Currently, He is focusing on policy interventions and people's participation in health screening program.

Dr. Deb is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. She completed her PhD from IIT Guwahati. The title of her thesis was "Indices of Comparative Advantage: A Study with Focus on Differences between Gross Trade and Value-Added Trade." Prior to her PhD, she completed Masters and M.Phil. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She did B.Sc. in Economics from Lady Brabourne College, University of Calcutta.
Area of Interest: Her research area can broadly be expressed as International Trade and Economic Development. Particularly, she is interested in applications of different theories of trade, multilateral trade negotiations, regional trade agreements and global production networks. Equally, she is interested in International Finance, particularly on issues related to Balance of Payment of nations, and the dynamics of exchange rate

Dr. Sarmah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIIT Guwahati since November 2023. She received her Ph.D. from National Institute of Technology Sikkim in Economics. She look forward to research collaboration in areas of entrepreneurship, industrial economics and agricultural economics.
Area of Interest: She is interested in Entrepreneurship, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Industrial Economics, Small-scale Industries and Agricultural Economics.

Dr. Saha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIIT, Guwahati. She has joined this Institute in January 2024. She did B.COM and M.COM, specializing in Accounting and Finance from Gauhati University. She pursued her Ph.D. in Finance from the Department of Commerce, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
Area of Interest: Her research interests include corporate disclosure practices, corporate governance, green finance, and intellectual capital.
Linguistics:

Dr. Barua is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIIT Guwahati. She did her M.A, M.Phil and PhD throughout from the Department of Linguistics, University of Delhi. She is a member of the Editorial Committee of the journal Language and Language Teaching and a Language Specialist and Aviation English Trainer for AELTO/TSP Guwahati under Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India.
Area of Interest: Her area of interest includes Sociolinguistics, Discourse/ Conversation Analysis, English Language Teaching, Translation Studies, Gender Studies, Socio-cultural and political history of Assam

Dr. Mitra is an Assistant Professor and Head at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in IIIT Guwahati. He has an M Phil (2010) from the Department of English, University of Hyderabad, and a PhD (2014) from the Department of English Literature, The English & Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. For his PhD, he had worked on natural history narratives from India between 1857 and 1950, and his M Phil was on colonial tiger hunting narratives.
Area of Interest: His research interests include the history of cinema, natural disaster and discourses on the leisure cultures of the British Empire. He has published papers on the Bengali experience of the First World War, famine rhetoric in British India, cinema propaganda in colonial India and the big game hunting culture of the Raj era

Dr. Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in IIIT Guwahati. He has completed PhD from the Department of Indian And World Literatures, at The English And Foreign Languages University Hyderabad. His doctoral dissertation is titled “Redefining Modernity, Reconfiguring Democracy: The Cultural and Political Legacy of Naxalbari Movement in India”. He had completed Postgraduation with a Masters Degree in English from the same institution before which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Calcutta University.
Area of Interest: His area of interest includes Colonial & Postcolonial Studies, Left Intellectual and Cultural History, Subaltern Studies, Adivasi Studies, Urban Studies, and English Language Teaching in India.

Political Science:
(Assistant Professor, Department of HSS, IIIT Guwahati)
Dr. Lal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in IIIT Guwahati. Prior to this, he held the position of Senior Research Consultant at Action Aid, India, from April 2016 to July 2016. In his career journey, Dr. Lal was also affiliated with the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, an institute recognized by the ICSSR under the Government of India, as an Associate Fellow from August 2009 to January 2012. Furthermore, he contributed as a researcher for the Prime Minister High-Level Committee, commonly referred to as the Sachar Committee, a government initiative from December 2006 to March 2007. Dr. Lal has authored research project reports for several prestigious organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Development Research Centre-Canada (IDRC), Christian Aid, DFID UK, and the Ministries of Panchayati Raj and Social Justice and Empowerment under the Government of India. Dr. Lal presently serves as a consultant to NCERT, Delhi, contributing to their research on Sustainable Development Goals 4.7, specifically focusing on policies and practices in school education.
Area of Interest: His area of interest includes Politics of Identity, Violence (Caste and Ethnic Conflicts), Sociopolitical History of Marginalised, Public Policy and Developmental Schemes
