Industry Experience

Alcatel-Lucent India [2009-2012]

  • New Product introduction in the network like VDSL, GPON, 40G/100G Optics

  • Solution architecting with new products for operators

  • Working with product development units and Bell Labs for feature enhancement

  • Long Term Network Access Architecture for Bharti-Airtel

  • Technology selection for National Optical Fiber Broadband (NOFN) for India

CDOT [1989-2008]

General:

  • As a member of the C-DOT Board, contributed effectively towards preparation of the vision document of C-DOT i.e., ‘Technical and Financial Road Map’ which aims at making the organization self-reliant.

  • In accordance with the objective laid down in the vision document, ensured alignment of the mission of the organization with the changing market scenario. While conceptualizing the projects and selecting the technologies for development, market competitiveness of the end product has always been the main priority, which was realized with commercial deployment of a number of products during this period.

  • In order to ensure the quality as well as timely and cost effective delivery of the products, strict adherence to CMMI processes was ensured in all the stages of development cycle.

  • During my stay in CDOT, I provided technical leadership and motivation to extremely qualified teams of about 200 engineers engaged in development of major projects in the areas of Telecom Security Systems, Network Management System, Intelligent Networks, Operations Support Systems, Access networks (GPON), Optical Technology based Networks etc.).

Majority of the projects undertaken during the period were carried out successfully and commercially deployed in the public network. Major Indigenously Developed Projects (Total development cost of the projects: (Approx. INR 350-400 Crores)

  • Transfer of Technology of STM-1 system to Iran Telecom Research Center (ITRC), Iran: STM-1 system was successfully developed in CDOT and technology was transferred to ITRC Iran on commercial terms.

  • Local Switch Network Management System: Nation-wide deployment of Local Switch NMS in BSNL/MTNL network for all types of technologies viz. EWSD, AXE, OCB, E10B, C-DOT and 5ESS.

  • GSM NMS: Deployed in BSNL Network to monitor the performance of mobile switches of different technologies. Supports switches of Siemens, Lucent, Ericsson and Motorola. These switches are being monitored at National level.

  • TAX NMS: TAX NMS solution to cover TAX exchanges of all Telecom Circles in BSNL Network (Approx. 350+) has been developed and deployed in the country.

  • Subscriber Management: Subscriber Management for BSNL PSTN network.

  • Intelligent Network (IN) Systems: CDOT designed IN platform has been giving service to MTNL Delhi and Mumbai network since 2000. Up-gradation were continuously done as and when new requirements were received.

  • Operation Support System (OSS): Indigenous solution developed for Clearing House, roaming management between BSNL and MTNL and is being maintained and operated from CDOT premises.

  • Call Interception and Intelligence System: This system was developed for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) of the country. Law Enforcement Interception Facility (LEIF) at operator premises and Law Enforcement Monitoring Facility (LEMF) at LEA’s premises were designed and developed by C-DOT. LEMF (for all GSM, CDMA and fixed line operators of Delhi) is deployed in Directorate of Enforcement.

  • Dense/Course Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) System: This high capacity optical transport system (Dense WDM) was designed and developed, system integration in full configuration of a 32 wavelengths conforming to the TEC GR was completed and commercially deployed in BSNL Network.

  • Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON): Principal architect in the development of total solution consisting of OLT, ONTs, EMS and NMS as per International Standards. This technology is likely to be used in Government approved “National Optic Fiber Network” (NOFN) which plans to connect all Gram Panchayats in the country through optical fiber cable to ensure a bandwidth of at least 100 Mbps at each Gram Panchayat.
