2022-2023 Policies

STAYING INFORMED

How to obtain information

In order to obtain information, please adhere to the following steps. First, families are required to check the IHM website as well as the individual classroom teacher websites to obtain the most up-to-date information. This is school policy. Second, ask your child and check his/her binder and homework planner. Third, read the weekly emails that are published on Mondays by the HSA and on Wednesdays from IHM. It is NOT school policy to contact the teacher for information that can be found elsewhere. Each homeroom will also have a class parent liaison that is able to assist in answering any questions that you may have.

Email policy

The policy established by IHM is that teachers have 24 hours to respond to an email. If emails are sent over the weekend, then a response will be provided by the end of school day on Monday. As a reminder if there is a change in dismissal procedures, please call the main office at 410 668 8466 as time sensitive emails will not be seen while teachers are working with students.

ACADEMIC POLICIES

Requesting work for a vacation/absence

Teachers will not provide work in advance to students. Upon return from the absence, your child/family will be given the missing work.

Requesting work when sick

Per the IHM handbook, teachers will provide students who are sick their missing work upon return to IHM the following school day. If your child is too sick to come to school, then their goal is to get better so that they can return. Your child/family can keep up-to-date with school and classroom information by checking the IHM and individual teacher’s websites. They can be accessed at www.ihmschoolmd.org.

Taking a test/quiz after being absent

Your child will be required to take the test or quiz that they missed on the day that they return to school.

Powerschool

Parents in grades 3-8 can request access to their child’s Powerschool account, which shows assignments, grades and missing work. Access will open in the middle of September. This school year, students in grades 5-8 will also have access to Powerschool so that they can be accountable for their school work as well. Miss Debbie (dsperato@ihmschoolmd.org) can assist parents with username and password information. All students in grades 5-8 will be provided their login information during the school day.

HEALTH POLICIES

Food in School

IHM is a nut-free school, and this includes all classrooms as well as the cafeteria. No outside food, including fast food, is permitted to be left for students for lunch at the main office. Students should bring a refillable water bottle that is filled with water only to start the school day. As a reminder, no birthday food treats are permitted.

Medications

No medications will be provided by the nurse - a doctor’s note must be on file and medication must be supplied by families. This includes allergy medication, cough drops, Tylenol, Advil, and Tums.
