Welcome to the Counseling Department of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School. I am here to help your children have a smooth and productive experience while they are with us. On this page you will find tips, links and other sources of support. Feel free to contact me with any thoughts or concerns. spowers@ihmschoolmd.org
This is just a brief overview of my credentials and experiences, but it will give you an idea of who I am. I first moved to Baltimore from Binghamton, New York in 1975 to attend college. I earned an undergraduate degree in Counseling Psychology at Loyola College and went on to earn a Masters degree in Counseling and Clinical Psychology from Loyola, as well. Work experience includes the Community Counseling and Resource Center and Sheppard Pratt Hospital where I worked with a wide variety of populations including children and adolescents. For 18 years I volunteered at the Family Tree doing crisis intervention by phone for at-risk families and have occasionally trained new phone counselors for the support line. Additional volunteer work in the field includes piloting a support group for homeless women in downtown Baltimore, which continues to run today. I am currently the school counselor at Immaculate Heart of Mary where I established the Counseling Program in 2010. My most practical experience was having 4 children of my own, who also happened to go through IHM before I started the program. At this point, I now have 2 grandsons attending IHM. We love this school and hope that you will, as well.
