We are currently concluding our Nonfiction Biography Unit.
Peer Biography Project:
All students should be done typing the five chapters of their Peer Biography.

Upcoming Unit: "Refugee" by Alan Gratz.
Students will be reading and analyzing a Historical fiction novel. The novel follows three different children, all of whom are refugees. We will read about:
Josef, a Jewish boy who is fleeing Nazi Germany during World War II;
Isabel, a young girl who is fleeing Cuba during a time of intense political unrest in 1994;
Mahmoud, a teenage boy who is fleeing the Syrian civil war in 2015.
We will be regularly assessing comprehension with comprehension worksheets and quizzes. We will also return to vocabulary study, as it applies to our novel.
Writing:
Grammar: Verbs Pt. 2

Upcoming Writing Project: Argumentative Essay
Students will be taking a stance on something pertaining to school
They will develop a thesis statement and write a five paragraph persuasive essay.
8th Grade:
Currently Reading: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
This is a young adult dystopian novel. We have been discussing and analyzing elements of dystopian literature.
We will be regularly assessing comprehension with comprehension worksheets and quizzes. We will also return to vocabulary study, as it applies to our novel.

Please be attentive to parent reports that come home on FRIDAYS.
If a parent report has not come home, this is because there are no new grades to report. Parent Reports never come home on days where progress reports or report cards are released.
SNOW DAY PACKET HAS BEEN PROVIDED.
Snow Day Assignments:
Students have received a Middle School Snow Day ELA Packet. There are FIVE Total Assignments in the packet. Students must complete ONE lesson per snow day. They can choose which task they would like to complete.
Task Options Include: Two Nonfiction Reading Comprehension tasks, One five-page basic grammar review, One four-page Grammar Mad Libs task, One story writing task (story may be typed and attached OR handwritten in the given space)
They may work to complete this packet in the event of inclement weather. These packets will be collected at the end of the snow season in APRIL. (I will be checking for completion upon return from snow days.)
Currently, ALL assignments will be due.
