We celebrate National Science Day all over the Country to inculcate the scientific temper and innovative mindset among the students, faculty and public. The National Science Day is a very important day in the history of Indian Science linked to the discovery of the Raman Effect by Dr. Sir C. V. Raman for which he got the highest award, the Nobel Prize in 1939 in science.
As per MOE’s Innovation Cell and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, the National Science Day is to be celebrated by all the HEIs and Schools. In this context, the NCIDE and SOS jointly in consultation with the Regional Service Division are organizing various types of Science, Technology and Innovation promotion activities in the University both at Headquarters and Regional Centers over one month starting on February 01, 2023 and concluding on February 28, 2023.
The Major activities are:
Inauguration and Announcement of various events along with Popular Science Talk by an Expert and address by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (online).
Poster Making Competition on Science, Technology and Innovation for National Development.
Essay Writing Competition on Science and Technology enabled Innovation for Development.
Ideathon- an Innovative Idea competition to promote Science and Technology for Societal Development.
Concluding National Science Day Function at Headquarters and Regional Centres in Hybrid Mode :
Announcement of the Winners of various contests and Award Function.
Presentation of Status Report on IGNOU’s contribution to Science and Technology.

NCIDE and SOS will announce and notify the different events on February 01, 2023
Regional Centres will invite entries from IGNOU Students and Alumni as per the Guidelines to be prepared by NCIDE and SOS.
The entries will be evaluated at the Regional Centre level and the best three Winners will be awarded with the Regional level Award, Certificates and Mementoes.
Each Regional Centre will forward the best entries in each category to the NCIDE for National Level Competition.
NCIDE and SOS will evaluate these entries and select the best three in each category for National Level Award.
The selected Winners from NCR, if any may be invited at IGNOU headquarters and the others will be invited online or at concerned Regional Centers.
SOS will prepare a Status Report of Science and Technology contribution by IGNOU in terms of Research Papers, PhDs awarded, etc.
The Final National Science Day Celebration will be organized at Headquarters as well as the Regional Centers on the National Science Day, i.e. February 28, 2023 in which a Popular Science Talk by and Expert.
An Exhibition of the selected Posters will be organized at the Headquarters and Regional Centers.
All the participants of different events will be given Certificate of Participation.
