To get a complete understanding of my project let me take you on a journey to my life back when I was pursuing my 10+2. It was a rollercoaster year in my life. This was the time when I met Ms. Asheema Singh, coordinator AEP UNFPA those days who supported, guided and inspired me to write. Those write-ups became very popular and reached UN, got published in their wall planner and also, I received Mentor of the year 2012 for my volunteering, engagement and upliftment of UN activities.
This is exactly what I'm planning to solve by my startup. Celebrating our flaws and working on it to live a happy life! Let's celebrate our self and let's celebrate life as life goes on...! No matter what!
My objective is to learn and deliver, share and lead & challenge the unchangeable. Conscientiously, seeking for a position to work hard and achieve my goal. Looking to work for them who deserve.
There are N numbers of hurdles on the way and the first and foremost hurdle is societal stigma and difficulty in acceptance of having a mental health issue. So somewhere my biggest target is to build a more sensitive and accepting society which we try to achieve through conducting numerous workshops with different target audience with different areas of concerns like in societies, schools, colleges, universities, hospital staffs, gram panchayat centers etc.
The second hurdle is to convince the affected person or his family that they have some problem related to their mind and this is treatable or can be lived with as having a mental health concern is equivalent to being a MAD! So, no one accepts until it’s too late or even if they accept, they hide it. The third hurdle is the cost of treatment and therapies. This is really high, time consuming, and also demands patience which is difficult in most of the cases. So, one needs either to be financially strong or backed up by some social worker or someone who can spend for his recovery which is a rare possibility! So financial backup is a core requirement. So, the idea is to conduct as many workshops as possible to raise fund and help this category of people for their recovery.
The inspiration for this idea came from another phrase of my life that was the beginning of my professional life when I started working in a CBSE affiliated international school ranked Top 3 in India by Education World and best B school of the state founded by the state minister of education. So in brief, it offers the best academic service but there is a twist as well. It’s a VIP school and I started working as a special educator and presently working as a school psychologist and counselor. As a special educator, I strived to give my best effort and help all the special need children, their parents who were themselves going through depression or anxiety or other issues for their children, frustrated teachers and also management for various behavioral issues in an inclusive set up. Strived to balance everything and everyone, tried sending to various therapies, medication, counseling and all things to help but kept on failing as this is multidisciplinary and requires consistency and stability. Traveling and assisting children for their various needs became demanding and burden for parents as timing overlapped, distance of therapy centers, financial demand and lots more came in between and ultimately the child had to compromise. I was also helpless after diehard effort. This gave me the idea to go for a one stop mental health solution which will solve the issue of traveling for various therapies and consultation and will also save time and energy. This is when I started working in this line after my office hours & started earning N number of smiles and blessings from the hopeless, helpless and most discriminated population going through a lot of mental and emotional issues. Gradually transformed it to a full-fledged set up from a part-time involvement.
Though the amount of effort and dedication this dream demands is like an ocean but I see myself as that tiny sparkling little rain drop that adds to the mighty ocean! Need your guidance, support and blessings to get a smile on those faces who smile the least!
The Society that we live today is full of crisis situations that demands continuous victories without a single flaw has made almost all of us gain through something or the other at some point of our life. But let's learn from that and let's make our scarce our beauty! Like in Japan, broken potteries are given a finishing touch with gold to make it more beautiful and unique! These are reused and are more expensive also a product of luxury! This is the principle behind my startup. Let's build on what we can polish in a person and stay focused on helping them find their worth no matter how ugly, useless, or broken that person is! There is something beautiful & unique in each and every one of us and let’s work together to find and flourish that instead of cursing what we can't or what we don't have or what we didn't get or so on!
I remember some lines from few of my clients...
A class II child with a mentally retarded brother. They both were twins; girl was academically strong and boy was dumb so was bullied in class and girl used to assist her for everything which was a burden on a class II child. On a PTM, when a not so sensitive parent asked her "Don't you feel ashamed that your brother is like this? You are also suffering for him."
She replied "God made my brother special and also made me and my mommy special. We have special power and strength to take care of my brother."
An IAS whose wife is under clinical depression with both the children with autism. Broke in a PTM and told he used to think why me! For all these hardships! Then he realized that God gives struggles to those whom he finds capable enough to navigate through.
This person grew up in slum, sold coconut to afford his studies, lost his father at the age of 16, became IAS at 25, married at 28, father of 2 autistic children and a clinically depressed wife at 34, serving best in his job, giving adequate time for his family, treatment and children and one of the most efficient man!
Thanking You....!
