Introduction

Mr. Yugal Kishor, is a student of PGDRD of IGNOU. He has made a Multi-Utility Contactless UV-Disinfecting System for Covid-19.

The Need of the Innovation

The Official/Personal belongings, tools, and gadgets are more exposed to the external environment. The virus and germs get easily stick on the surface of these belonging, that can cause of infections especially during the current scenario of Covid-19 when the virus can easily travel and transmitted through different surfaces. Personal gadgets like mobile phones, laptops, goggles, pen, wristwatches, wallets, wireless mouse, bag pack, power adapter, etc. are more exposed to such virus-like CORONA, through which virus can be easily spread to the community or a person. The chemical spray free, dry, quick and easy way of disinfection is required for that medium by which the chance of spreading the virus is more.

The Innovation

In view of the above, quick and easy way of disinfection is required; must be chemical free and dry. The contactless Ultraviolet (UV) disinfecting system is a novel automated solution for rapid and chemical-free disinfection for personal and office utility. The whole disinfection process should be contactless to ensure personal hygiene and reduce the chance of community spread of the virus. Moreover, it is very cost effective. The total cost of one prototype is around Rs. 8000 only.

Innovative Features

In the present pandemic situation, the contactless Ultraviolet (UV) disinfecting system is very innovative and has several unique features, as given below:

  • It is fully automated and contactless UV-disinfecting System,

  • It is a multi-utility and portable product which can be used anywhere like School, Colleges, Offices and Hospital, etc.,

  • It works on two mode of operation including Sensor based Operation (Developed) and IoT based control (Under development stage),

  • It is very cost-effective and quick as compared to the manual UV-disinfecting system,

  • It enables uniform 360° spread of UV rays inside the chamber,

  • It has safety switch which shut off power in case of accidental opening of door,

  • It has Auto-Resume function which allows to resume the process in case of power failure, and

  • Robust Design and can also be run through solar PV and battery in remote areas.

In addition to above, the commercially available UV-disinfecting chambers and boxes are non-contactless and mostly are manual operated, which is not suitable for current scenario of COVID-19. The USP of proposed design is contactless mechanism, more effective area and cost effective with similar range of product. The simple control algorithm and overall control make it more suitable for real time application.

Future Scope of the Innovation

The initial product and market survey suggest that none of such type of solution exist for contactless UV-disinfecting system. The design and process are further need to review by technical experts and manufacturers to get the commercially viable product. During key design up-gradation, further market review could be done to cater the market need and analysis of economic viability. The testing certification can be taken from NABL. After review on IPR aspects of the product, need to approach the manufacturer and inventors to pitch the proposed solution by providing them either product licensing or technology transfer or profit share.
