General Guidelines
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji has recently put forth the vision of Government of India to make it a Viksit Bharat@2047 in a mission mode. He has called all the Students, Youth, Faculty and Staff of all the HigherEducation Institutions and Universities to participate and contribute in the India’s bold, ambitious and transformative agenda of Viksit Bharat@2047, by way of generating and submitting innovative ideas for Viksit Bharat, organizing various types of activities and programmes for creating awareness among the youth of the country, towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
With the approval of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education (NCIDE) in collaboration with Regional Services Division (RSD), IGNOU is glad to announce an essay writing competition as part of Viksit Bharat@2047 and invites students and alumni to participate in this essay writing competition on the given themes.
Themes: There are the following two themes for the Essay Writing Competition
Theme-01: “How do I visualize Viksit Bharat@2047?”
You may touch upon the following aspects while writing your essay on this theme.
How can the Indians be empowered in terms of Education, Health, Sports, Nari Shakti, Caring Society and environment, Culture, Good health and wellbeing, etc.?
What kind of socio-economic and infrastructural development, do you visualize in 2047 aimed at thriving and Sustainable Economy through Agriculture, Industry, Services, Infrastructure, Energy, Green Economy, Cities, etc.?
How Innovation, Science, Technology and Startups will be contributing for Viksit Bharat?
What kind of Governance, Security and Services to the citizens of country would be required in 2047?
How do you visualise India in the World in 2047?
Your main focus may be on how you will contribute in this regard make Viksit Bharat@2047
Theme-02: “How do I visualize IGNOU in Viksit Bharat@2047?”
You may touch upon the following aspects while writing your essay on this theme.
What kind of changes, innovations and improvements would you like to see in admission, counselling, assessment, and evaluation system of IGNOU?
What type of teaching-learning approach do you visualise at IGNOU in 2047?
How can the ease of accessing teaching-learning material provided by IGNOU, various innovative formats of the self learning materials, providing instructions in mother tongue, inclusion of projects, research work, innovation and entrepreneurship related activities as a part of assessment, minimising student grievances, etc.?
How to ensure holistic development of students enrolled in different programmes of IGNOU?
What do you think about sustainable development of IGNOU, IGNOU in the world, and IGNOU as a major contributor in providing higher education to all?
Involvement of alumni in the growth and development of IGNOU by 2047.
Eligibility
The contest is open to all IGNOU learners and alumni. Enrolment number must be mentioned on each entry. All entries should be submitted on an individual basis. No shared work is allowed.
Entry Limit
Only one essay per student, per theme. However, the students can write two essays, one on each theme separately.
Medium of Essay
The essays can be submitted in any Indian language including English
Word Limit
The essay should be within 2000-2500 words in handwritten or typed in Word Format. It should not exceed the word limit or else, would lead to disqualification.
Prizes for the Best Entries (Essay)
Top 3 (three) essays at the National Level will receive Cash Prize @ Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 2000/- respectively, Memento and Certificate of Merit.
Top 3 (three) essays at each Regional Centre to receive a Certificate of Merit
Certificate of participation for each entry will be given by respective Regional Centre.
Important to Note
The entry should be original. Entries copied from any source will not be considered under the contest.
Please note that the Essay must be original and should not violate Copyright Act. Any kind of plagiarism or any explicit content in the essay shall not be entertained at any cost and the participant will be disqualified. Self-declaration of originally of essay should be attached with the essay.
No requests relating to claims of re-evaluation of the entries will be considered.
The decision of the committee will be final and binding to all the entries.
At any stage of evaluation, if an entry is found to violate the guidelines, the entry will be removed from evaluation process without giving any intimation.

Entries must be submitted through email to your Regional Centre with a copy to ncide@ignou.ac.in in the format prescribed at point 8 of this document. The last date of submission is March 10, 2024.
