Frequently Asked Questions

I have registered for the BSCG programme in the January/June Session. When will I be allowed to appear for the examination?

For the first time you can appear in the examination only an year after the admission. So, if you registered for the BSCG programme in the January Session, you can appear only in the December Term End Examination of that Year. If you registered for the July session, you can appear for the examination only the June Term End Examination next year. After the first examination, you can appear for the examination every six months.

I want to appear in the Term End Examination of the course X for the first time in a June/December Term End Examination. I am given to understand that I have submit the assignment before I submit the examination form. The assignment instructions say that the assignment is valid till June 30/December 31. The examination form says that I must submit the assignment before March/September. Which is correct?

Both are correct! If you want to appear for the June Term End Examination of the course X, it is March 31st. If you just want to submit the assignment and appear for the Term End Examination later, the validity is till June.

If I clear the assignment, but fail in the Term End Examination, do I need to submit my assignment again? If I fail in my assignment but clear the Term End Examination, do I need to appear in the Term End Examination again?

No, you need to clear each component separately. So, clearing or not clearing one component doesn’t affect the result of the other component.

Will the passing marks for a course is calculated by combining the assignment and Term End Examination marks or I need to obtain minimum required marks separately in each component.

No, you must get the minimum passing marks in each of the components separately.

I have registered for the January session. An assignment is available for the first semester course that is valid till June. I am also told that a new assignment will be uploaded in July. Which assignment should I submit?

If you want submit your assignment before the end of June, submit the old assignment. If you want submit after June, submit the new assignment that will be uploaded in June.

I am told that I have to submit the assignments at the Regional Centre through email. Where can I find the email address of my regional centre?

You can find the email address of your regional centre from the following extract from the common prospectus for January 2020.

regional-centre-address-codes.pdf

How do I scan and submit my assignment? I don't have a scanner and I can't go out because of the lockdown.

If you have a smartphone, you can use any of the many apps available in Google Play or Apple store for scanning and emailing your assignment. For example, the app Camscanner is very popular and a free version is available from both Google Play and Apple store and this is adequate for the purpose. Disclaimer: IGNOU doesn't endorse or recommend any particular app. Camscanner is only cited as an example.

Where can I find the old question papers of Mathematics Courses? What is the pattern of questions?

Examinations will be held first time in the BSCG courses only in June, 2020. So, no old question papers are available. The pattern of the question paper is as follows:

  • The examination will be of 3 hours duration and the maximum marks is 100.
  • In the first section there are 10 True/False questions, each worth 2 marks. It is compulsory to answer all the questions in this section. No marks will be given without proper justification. If the answer is True, the student has to provide a short proof/justification. If the answer is false. a counter example should be given.
  • In the second section, there are 3 questions, each worth 10 marks. These questions may have parts. All the questions in section are compulsory.
  • In the third section, there are 6 questions each worth 10 marks. The student has to answer any five.

You can get some idea of the type of questions you wlll get by looking at the old question papers of MTE-01(Calculus) and MTE-08(Differential Equations) which are part of the old BDP programme.
