Joe Perales grew up in McAllen, Texas, and graduated from Nikki Rowe H.S. in 1998. After graduation, he attended undergraduate school at UTPA and STC to pursue nursing, where he obtained an LVN certificate and later an ADN-RN degree. He began his nursing career in long-term care and skilled nursing; he found a passion for healthcare and was particularly drawn to the nurse-patient relationship.
He continued to pursue his ambition with the purpose of advancing his knowledge and graduated from UT-Arlington in 2014 with his bachelor's degree in nursing. In 2016, he received his Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University, respectively, earning his Family Nurse Practitioner board certification.
He spent 10 years as a nurse, assistant director, and director of nurses in long-term care and skilled nursing, focusing on rehabilitation medicine, geriatric care, and internal medicine.
He also wanted to work in the emergency department and worked in the ER at DHR. He worked there on the floor and as director of the emergency department. Joe decided to pursue the Family Nurse Practitioner's career after spending time in the emergency department, skilled nursing, acute care, and geriatric care, and seeing the impact on his patients improving with proper treatment and preventive care
He believes in the approach to healthcare as a functional and lifestyle practitioner in McAllen, Texas, and integrates all his experience into how he cares for his patients. Joe's aspiration for holistic and functional medicine, along with family practice, is to apply his knowledge in treating patients with diabetes, renal failure, autoimmune disorders, hypertension, hyperlipidèmia, hormone imbalance, joint pain, and alopecia with the optimal goal of restoration, and regeneration with body, mind, and spirit.
He has been practicing as a nurse practitioner for over 8 years. He is a current member of the Texas Nurse Practitioner Association and the American Association of Credentialing Center (ANCC) for Board-Certified Nurse Practitioners. He is a proud member of the Texas Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Joe was a member of the International Nursing Honor Society in 2016 for his academic excellence in his Master of Science in Nursing studies. He is also a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Currently, he is attending the University of Texas at Austin for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole of 23 years, three children, Jolyssa, Jaden, and Josiah, and his French Bulldogs: Nala, Brody (+), Cooper, and Cora.
