Selected monument:
Convento dos Remédios (Braga).
Location in time:
Remédios Convent was founded in 1544.
Location in space:
It was located in the eastern block of Largo Carlos Amarante.
History:
This monument was founded in 1544 by D.Frei André Torquemada. It was the first convent that appeared in Braga. This was a women's convent of the order of S. Francisco and occupied the east area of Largo Carlos Amarante, which for a long time was known as Campo dos Remédios (from Rua de S. Marcos to Rua de S. Lázaro).
This historic building was demolished in 1911 for the construction of a communication route with more access to the city of Braga
Reasons for asset loss:
This heritage was lost when the government decided to open a cross street through the convent fence, from Avenida João Franco to Largo Carlos Amarante, with the need to cut the church in half to align the street with the façade of the church of S. Frames.
The Braga Chamber opposed this decision and several civilians protested, but to no avail because on April 3, 1911 the last mass was said in the church, which a few days later was demolished.

GIVING A MEMORY TO OUR LOST PLACE IN LEÓN
As a result of the last work of the Erasmus we have a new memorial of the OLd Hospice in León
The stone inside the structure belongs to the Old Hospice and was rescue from the rubble abandoned in the carpark and donated by Diputación de León. The city Council helped us with the place, the metallic structure and the works to place it there.

As a result of one of the Erasmus + activities we work in León with the City Council and the Diputación provincial to conmemorate the lost place that we present in Braga: The Old Hospice in León. With the collaboration of the City Council School of Arts and Jobs we could place a plague in a public park in the city centre which was inaugurated by the Major on the 21st of June.
Another topic for students in this project was investigate and make a presentation about how we conmemorate victims in our citys (This was presented in Giugliano in Campania).
And now in León thanks to Erasmus we are also commemorating the victims of the Spanish Civil War ( the ones who were imprisioned in the old hospice).
Here below a short Video of the inauguration of the monolit. A short but very emotional moment and with a great local media impact:
