Creating Dialogues!

Dialogues are useful tools to show our creative skills. Here we have some aspects to discuss about DIALOGUES:

  • Dialogue is a conversation between two or more people.

  • Dialogue is essential to fiction writing.

  • Dialogue brings characters to life and adds interest.

  • Dialogue must do more than just duplicate real speech.

  • Writing dialogue consists of the most exciting, most interesting, most emotional, and most dramatic words.

Besides, dialogues follow some rules to be considered as real dialogues. They have to do, usually, with punctuation. These are:

  1. Quote any spoken words. Example: "My car doesn't work"

  2. Capitalize the first word of the quoted sentence. Example: "My car doesn't work"

  3. Separate spoken and unspoken words with punctuation. Example: "My car doesn't work", my mum said.

  4. Use tags to show who is speaking and their mood. Example: "My car doesn't work", my mum said sadly.

  5. Indent for new speakers and use dialogue with correct punctuation.

  1. Look at the pictures below and write small dialogues by using the information in the cards. Pay attention to the rules seen previously!

2. Before starting doing the FINAL PRODUCT and using the computer, draw a Comic Draft on a paper sheet with the final story. Show all you have learnt in the previous activities, be careful with dialogues, grammar mistakes and use vocabulary according to the topic you have chosen!
