Joshua Paavola

Hello, my name is Joshua Paavola, and through this brief letter, I will describe my experiences working as an auxiliary English teacher at I.E.S. Mariana Pineda in Seville.

First, I’d like to introduce myself. I’m from the USA and originally from Michigan. I am 26 years old. Prior to pursuing teaching abroad, I worked as an environmental  scientist in Indiana for 2 years. My degree was in geology, geophysics, and German. In fact, I studied abroad in Germany for the 2016–2017 school year.

I have many experiences traveling, exploring, and learning far from home through my studies. Before moving to Seville and working at I.E.S. Mariana Pineda, I worked in Madrid as an auxiliary English teacher for 2 years as well. It was a great experience that I wanted to continue in Andalusia.

Working as an assistant English teacher in I.E.S. Mariana Pineda has been a highly rewarding and enriching experience. I’m able to immerse myself in Andalusian culture, interact with students from diverse backgrounds, and refine my teaching skills. As an assistant English teacher, I’ve had the  opportunity tocollaborate with experienced teachers, gain valuable classroom experience, and improve my Spanish language skills. Additionally, living in Seville has offered methe opportunity to explore its vibrant culture, try delicious cuisine, and travel tovarious cities and towns throughout the area. Overall, working as an assistant English teacher in Spain has been an exciting and unforgettable experience thathas broadened horizons both personally and professionally for me.
