CASE OUTLINE
Today we have in our waiting room two patients waiting. They have some basic questions about health and disease prevention.
Your team is now responsible for solving their questions and proposing them a more healthy lifestyle. To do so, you first need to refresh your knowledge about health and disease and about disease prevention, transmission and treatment. Afterwards, you will give the explanations to both patients. You may find below the basic data about them and their questions.
CASE 1: Ally McBeal, 32, female. Ally has been diagnosed from lung cancer and she wants to know if the disease can be transmitted to her partner or to her two kids. She also wants to know if there is a vaccine against lung cancer.
CASE 2: Vincent Vega, 46, male. Vincent had his first child 3 months ago and he does not know if he should vaccinate him or not. He does not know how vaccines work and he also wants to know if there are vaccines against all disease types.
WORK PLAN
TASK 1: INITIAL TEAM MEETING AND PLANNING
You will be working in pairs. Each couple will be responsible for preparing the meeting and explanations for one of the patiens (Ally or Vincent).
TEAM: Decide who will be working on each case and write the two or three basic topics that you need to prepare before your meeting with the patients.
TASK 2: REFRESHING OUR KNOWLEDGE
INDIVIDUALLY: After the initial planning, you will need to refresh your knowledge. To do that, you need to watch individually the Edpuzzle video, answering the questions prompted and taking notes about the basic topics that you decided in the previous task.
TASK 3: HANDOUT PREPARATION
TEAM: Now it is time for preparing a short handout that you will give to the patients during your coming meeting. Your handout should be appropriate for both patients. You can use (strongly recommended) the proposed template.
You will find most of the information you need in the Edpuzzle video and in the supporting materials (at the "Useful info & docs" project webpage).
TASK 4: HANDOUT DELIVERY
TEAM: Deliver the handout through our Google Classroom before the due date. Make sure that the name of your team and of the team members are clearly stated in it.
TASK 5: EVALUATING AND GRADING YOUR PEERS.
TEAM: Using the evaluation form, let me know about your experience working as a team and propose the qualifications for all your team members. Take into account their role performance, their work and their contribution to the final result.
INDIVIDUALLY: Using the evaluation form, think about your learning experience and let me know your suggestions, comments and claims to improve the project and our learning experience.
