Today in our Department of Sexual & Reproductive Health we have two patients waiting. They have two different diseases affecting their reproductive system or their sexuality. Our diagnostics medical team has already diagnosed them.
Your team is now responsible for explaining them their diseases and proposing them a suitable treatment and recommendations to avoid suffering the desease in the future.
To do so, you first need to refresh your knowledge about these anatomic systems and about their specific diseases. Afterwards, you will explain the causes, symptoms and proposed treatments to the patients.
PATIENTS 1: Celine and Jesse, 16 and 15 years old. They come to the Sex & Reproductive Health Unit because they have started having sexual relations and have contracted a chlamydia infection, which is causing Jesse to develop urethritis and balanitis. They want information about how these diseases can be transmitted and how to avoid these and other STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).
PATIENTS 2: Tina and Diana, both 31 years old. They want to have a child and they wish Tina to have the pregnancy and Diana to be the egg donor. They want to know if their better option is an Artificial Insemination or an In-Vitro Fertilisation. Diana has menstrual pain (menstrual cramps) and has been diagnosed with an endometriosis.
All the members of your medical teams will be working in both cases. According to your role you will be in charge of different sections for each case, as detailed in the template (to be downloaded and shared with me and your teammates).
TASK 1: INITIAL TEAM MEETING AND PLANNING
TEAM: Download the template for the medical report you will be preparing and share it with me and with your teammates.
INDIVIDUALLY: Read carefully the content of the different sections of the medical report for these patients and, especially, the ones corresponding to you (according to your role).
TASK 2: REFRESHING OUR KNOWLEDGE
INDIVIDUALLY: After the initial planning, you will need to refresh your knowledge. To do that, you need to watch individually the Edpuzzle video, answering the questions prompted (at least 65% correctly).
DURING THE VIDEO: Take notes to be used in the preparation of the medical report and complete the corresponding blank anatomical diagram(s).
TASK 3: MEDICAL REPORT PREPARATION
TEAM: Now it is time for preparing a brief medical report using the provided template. You will give the medical report to the patients during your coming meeting. Your report should be appropriate for both patients.
You will find most of the information you need in the Edpuzzle video and in the supporting materials (at the "Useful info & docs" project webpage).
TASK 4: MEDICAL REPORT DELIVERY
TEAM: Submit the medical report through our Google Classroom before the due date. Make sure that the name of your medical team and of the team members are clearly stated in it.
TASK 5: EVALUATING AND GRADING YOUR PEERS.
TEAM: Using the evaluation form, propose the qualifications of your team members. Take into account their role performance, their work and their contribution to the final result.
INDIVIDUALLY: Using the evaluation form, think about your learning experience and let me know your suggestions and comments to improve the project.
