Hunger in the world

Africa is the continent that has the highest prevalence of undernourishment. According to Mercy Corps, in sub-Saharan Africa, 243 million people face hunger. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that, in Eastern Africa, 30.8% of the population is undernourished due to the climate change, conflits and the economic slowdowns.

  • According to WHO, the largest numbers of undernourished people in the world are in Asia, more than 500 million. Besides that, Mercy Corps affirms that hunger affects mostly the southern countries, like Indonesia, where 37.2% of children under 5 are stunted.

The hungry ones are most numerous in Asia, but expanding fastest in Africa. The two continents together represent more that 85% of the hunger population in the world.
