Our start up

The Sun Gardens start up, located in Catania, was born from an idea of several young students of the XX Settembre middle school. The participation to the Erasmus project "When I grow up I want to be…. gave them a great chance to experience a new business and learn many things from real life.

The idea is to start a business making organic marmalade with red oranges available in little jars so people can eat it in all seasons. These are our steps which followed to create our start up:

1)Opening the door to entrepreneurship-LO to explore the meaning of the word ‘entrepreneurship’ to be able to identify characteristics of an entrepreneur as well as be able to name local and international entrepreneurs.

2)Visit to a company-LO:learn about the world of entrepreneurship through the eyes and experiences of a businessperson.Use interviewing skills and hot-seating to learn from their visitor. Reflect on what we have learned from the visit and will consider the implications of the learning for our chosen business idea.

3)Will the idea work? LO: - learn about the different types of market research to inform the development of their mini-business. Undertake market research by designing and distributing a questionnaire for use during the project

4)Making It All Happen.LO:Learn about the processes and stages involved in implementing their chosen business.Teaching and learning -how to calculate costs, source funding through investors, monitor budget and keep a record of all financial income and expenditure.

5) Launch of our mini-company and sell the products

Launch of the mini-company and sell the products

The main activity of the meeting in Wales was the Trade Fayre at National Water front Museum of Swansea. In that occasion our students launched the mini-company " Sun Garden" and showed this beautiful site realized by them. Students from schools partner had the possibility to taste our marmalade and other Sicilian products and have more information about our land: Sicily.
