March-May
Each participating school nominates lists of titles to be considered for the award in each of the reading categories:
Braunvieh - Younger Readers (approx. 4-6 years)
Évolène - Middle Readers (approx. 7-10 years)
Herens - Older Readers (approx. 11-14 years)
Simmental - Advanced Readers (approx. 15-18 years)
May
Participating Librarians vote for the shortlist, nominating eight titles for the Braunvieh, the Evolène, and the Herens categories, and four titles for the Simmental category.
May to the Second Week of September
The final lists are open to comment and discussion if there are concerns.
September - May
Librarians organize reading promotion activities appropriate for their school and readers. Titles may be used within other promotional activities such as Battle of the Books.
Each school holds student and teacher voting sessions to be done the last week of the month in May. Each school may choose when to vote, but all final votes must be submitted via a Live Google Form by the last week in May.
June
Winners of the Golden Cowbell Book Award are announced and contacted as soon as possible. They receive a Golden Cowbell and Swiss chocolate.
