Five Swiss International Schools Form New Sports League
Five Swiss International Schools have formed the new International Schools Sports League (ISSL), under a logo designed by an ICS Grade 12 artist.
ICS has become a member of a newly formed, 5-school sports league of international schools in Switzerland. The plan is that together with ISZL, ZIS, TASIS and ZIS, our ICS student athletes will now compete against all the teams in the new league, participating in championships that will form the “jewel in the crown” of each school’s respective sports programmes.
In past years, all five schools have played friendly matches during the week and on cluster Saturdays. In the future, some of these games and clusters will now count towards the ISSL league championship standings. One game between schools over the course of a season, either a weekday game or during the cluster Saturday, will count towards league standings in sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc. Therefore, the season will be a four-game schedule. Other sports, such as tennis, will have a tournament style format on their cluster Saturday to determine the ISSL champion. The team with the best record in their four games, or the winner of the cluster Saturday tournament, will be crowned as ISSL champion for the year and will receive a championship plaque to display at their school for the entire year.
When current restrictions are finally eased and sports competitions resume, ISSL student athletes will be competing in sports at the Primary, Middle and High School level and they will be doing so under the original logo designed by ICS student Malti R!
Malti’s sleek and stylish logo is a combination of symbols representing Switzerland’s cultural identity and will be used on all ISSL documentation, flags and promotional material. The logo is Malti’s first digital art piece and her design went through several phases before being approved by ISSL’s five athletic directors.
Malti’s attention to detail and finish is reflected in her choice of fonts, with waves and mountains that are so typical for our host country. Swiss cultural identity is also reflected in the logo’s colour scheme and shield format.
When the time comes for student athletes from the five ISSL member schools return to sports competitions, athletes and teams from ICS will be especially proud to compete under a logo designed by one of our own! Well done, Malti!
