The Erasmus+ Program is the EU Program in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport for the period 2021-2027 (Regulation (EU) 2021/817 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 2021). The general objective of the program is to support, through lifelong learning, the educational, professional and personal development of individuals, thereby contributing to sustainable growth, quality jobs, and social cohesion, as well as promoting innovation and strengthening European identity and active citizenship. In this context, Erasmus+ Accreditation in the Education and Training sector represents a tool for organizations to open up to international cooperation and exchanges for learners in initial and continuing vocational training and staff, with the aim of contributing to the implementation of the Council Recommendation on Vocational Education and Training for sustainable competitiveness, social equity and resilience and the Osnabrück Declaration, the European Skills Agenda, and the creation of the European Education Area.
Our Institute San Giovanni Bosco of Taranto, for the 2023-2024 Academic Year, has received a grant to finance the student group mobility program, with the following objectives. The project aims to strengthen the school’s European and global dimension by developing three interrelated competences among staff and students: democratic citizenship, sustainability awareness and digital global responsibility.
Firstly, it promotes European democratic citizenship through the enhancement of linguistic and intercultural competences, encouraging dialogue, inclusion and mutual understanding across different cultures and educational contexts. Collaboration with partner schools will inspire innovative teaching strategies and foster a stronger sense of belonging to the European community.
Secondly, it supports the development of sustainability competences, empowering learners and educators to adopt environmentally responsible attitudes and actions. Building on the school’s ongoing eco-projects, the initiative seeks to consolidate sustainable practices, foster awareness of climate change, and contribute to the transition towards a greener and fairer society.
Finally, it focuses on digital global citizenship, guiding students and teachers towards a conscious, critical and creative use of digital tools. By improving media literacy, online safety, and computational thinking, the project nurtures responsible participation in the digital world and enhances the use of technology for learning, communication and civic engagement.
Together, these objectives respond to the school’s strategic priorities of inclusion, innovation and global competence, preparing both staff and students to act as active, aware and responsible European citizens.
OUR TRAVELS
This first experience was a job-shadowing activity for the teachers, who had the opportunity to observe and share best practices with European colleagues, and for a students group, who were able to compare and study in an International context. An important opportunity of growth.
The second experience was dedicated to a training course for Secondary School Teachers. The course focused on the critical use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching, a highly topical issue that will allow us to integrate innovative technologies
into our teaching approach.
