About Us

SWIS (Supporting Women, Impacting Society) is a discussion-based club with a focus on social justice and feminism. SWIS used to stand for "Strong Women Impacting Society," but in 2018 the club decided to change its name in order to be more inclusive of students of all genders.

We explore issues relating to a wide range of topics such as intersectionality, consent, disability rights, discrimination, and more. Each meeting we discuss a new topic, and to spark discussion we usually first read an article or watch a video. Club members are encouraged to lead discussions on topics which interest them.

We try to bring in guest speakers as much as we can, especially on topics which SWIS members lack experience or perspective on. Additionally, SWIS annually organizes the Menstrual Product Drive and Herstory, and participates in Take Back the Night, the IHS Climate Action Exposition, and Social Justice Week. We recently have had virtual field trips (due to the pandemic) but plan on organizing future in-person field trips to protests, the Ithaca Parade, exhibits at the Johnson Art Museum, movie screenings, and more.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of how they identify!
