Students

Ithaca High School Science Olympiad is a student-led club, containing some of the brightest and most motivated individuals at IHS! Each year, we continue to grow, and are eager to welcome incoming students to our community in the fall.

In conjunction with the club advisors, officers plan meetings and competitions, organize fundraisers, mentor younger students, lead event workshops, and all compete themselves.

Mukund Gaur

Hi! I'm a senior and this is my fourth year in Science Olympiad, and I've been competing since 6th grade. Besides Science Olympiad, I enjoy playing tennis and biking. We had such a great season last year, and I look foward to our competitions this year!

Hey! I am currently a junior in my third year of being part of the IHS Science Olympiad team. I am thrilled to be serving as co-president and working with everybody as teammates and more importantly, as friends! I have learned lots from last year's officers, and am ready to take on another incredible season!

Dinithi Senevirathna

Hi! I'm currently a junior and this is my third year of Science Olympiad. My favorite events have been Astronomy, Fermi Questions and Experimental Design. I'm very excited to be the secretary and look forward to an exciting year!

Hi! I'm a senior and this is my second year in Science Olympiad. My favorite part of being on the team is studying with others and going to competitions. I also love origami, math, physics, and music. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and contributing to the team this year!

Hey friends! I am a senior this year and a big fan of science! I am also part of the IHS Dev Team and am a flute section leader in Band. I’m excited for the upcoming season and can't wait to make new memories while helping the team succeed in the upcoming competition season!

Hi! I'm a senior and this is my second year on the team. Besides Science Olympiad, I also play tennis and violin, and I love to spend time outside. I am super excited to be co-captain this year. I learned a lot, and overall really enjoyed competing with my friends (old and new) last year. I can't wait to see what we can do!

Lyndon Hess

Lyndon is in the Class of '23 at IHS and is currently attending Cornell University, considering a major in math or chemistry. His favorite events in Science Olympiad were Detector Building and Environmental Chemistry. He loves tennis, languages and all things science. He is looking forward to helping with Science Olympiad at Cornell.

David Riccio

David is in the Class of '23 at IHS and is currently attending the University of Rochester. His favorite event in Science Olympiad was Astronomy. Besides Science Olympiad, he also really enjoys playing tennis.

Divya Raina

Divya is part of the IHS class of ´25. She enjoys SciOly, one of her favorite events being Anatomy and Physiology. She is very excited to be apart of the team for the 2023-24 season.

Claire is part of the IHS Class of '25. She has moved up to the position of co-president along with Mukund, and is excited to work with the new team for the 2023-2024 season.

Theo Lobo

Theo is part of the IHS class of '23. He loves SciOly and how it allows students to pursue various passions and interests through dozens of fun events. He especially loves the combination of learning interesting subjects while also making a challenging build in events like Detector Building. In addition to SciOly, Theo likes playing drums and tennis and hopes to continue these activities going forward. He is currently attending Cornell University, majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Mukund is part of the Class of 2024 at IHS. He will be one of the co-presidents for the 2023-24 season, and is very excited to continue building on the amazing team that was put together this year.

Advisors

Our coaches and advisors are all teachers here at IHS who have chosen to run this club outside of the normal school day. They support students, organize competitions, find times and places for students to work, and so much more. Thank you for all your work and unwavering enthusiasm!

Mr. Higgins (2024 - Present)

Mr. Fellman (2015-2023)

Mr. Fellman began as the advisor for Science Olympiad in the 2015-2016. In 2017 he led the team to its first state qualification. Recently, he became the Science Olympiad Southern Tier Regionals director. Besides his role in Science Olympiad, Mr. Fellman is physics and forensics teacher at IHS.

Ms. Skiba (2021-2024)

Ms. Skiba became a coach in 2021 after competing herself in Science Olympiad. Her favorite event was Forestry and Rocks & Minerals and she now teaches Earth Science at IHS. Outside of the classroom she enjoys gardening and cooking.

Mr. Sauve (2022-2024)

Mr. Sauve is the newest addition to the IHS SciOly coaching team, joining midyear in the 22-23 season. Although Mr. Sauve is a math teacher, he greatly enjoys the spirit of academic competition found in Science Olympiad. In the few free hours he spends outside of school, he enjoys biking, gaming, and cooking.
