What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
AR is a reading program that allows students to read books at their own level and take short quizzes to check their understanding and comprehension. It also helps students practice reading independently and track their reading progress.
AR also provides teachers with reading level, comprehension, and progress data. Teachers can use AR data to monitor growth and help students choose books that are a good fit.
AR encourages reading consistency, reading ownership, and goal setting!

Students earn themed, grade-specific tags (brag tags) to hang from their backpacks! Similar to our language ribbons, AR brag tags will be earned through successful participation.
How do students know which books will be best for them?

K-1 students have a colored star sticker(s) in their agenda to help them determine which books to choose.
2-3 students have their reading ranges written in their agenda’s HUB barcode.

To participate, students will check out leveled books to read at home. When they return to school and feel prepared, the students will take a short quiz (5 or 10 questions, depending on the level). When they pass the quiz, they receive credit for that book, moving closer to earning the brag tags and moving up on the AR bulletin board.
Please note, students are welcome to read books from their local libraries or bookstores and take quizzes at school when they are done reading (please make sure these books are AR books. You can search their entire list of books HERE)!

Each time students pass a certain number of quizzes, their name will move up on the AR bulletin board.
Each grade has its own AR bulletin board and pacing!
AND
Students will receive a brag tag for reaching each new stage!

The end goal is to encourage students to read regularly, build comprehension skills, and celebrate their reading accomplishments along the way!
