We are pleased to present the inaugural issue of the Multidisciplinary Journal of Sustainability, Volume 1, Issue 1. This journal aims to foster knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research in the field of sustainability, bringing together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from various disciplines to address the complex challenges facing our world.
The articles featured in this issue provide valuable insights into diverse areas of study, including food processing, plant diversity, material science, consumer behavior, and employee well-being. Each article represents a unique contribution to its respective field, offering new perspectives and enhancing our understanding of sustainable practices.
In the first article, a systematic review investigates the twin-screw extruder's optimal conditions for producing partially pregelatinized starch as a binder in processed food. The findings highlight the importance of controlling moisture, barrel temperature, and screw speed in generating suitable binders from various starch sources, such as sago starch.
The second article explores the identification of sago accessions in Siberut National Park, Mentawai Island, West Sumatra. This research sheds light on the morphological and genetic diversity of sago plants, providing valuable insights into their potential as a carbohydrate source.
Next, the effects of alkali treatment on the mechanical and physical properties of nipah palm secondary fiber reinforced with unsaturated polyester are investigated. The study demonstrates the influence of alkali treatment on fiber morphology and its subsequent impact on composite strength.
Consumer behavior in the context of online shopping is examined in the fourth article, focusing on the demographic determinants and the Theory of Planned Behavior. This research contributes to understanding the factors influencing the acceptance and adoption of online shopping among consumers in Sibu, Sarawak, shedding light on the importance of attitudes, age, gender, and education level.
The fifth article addresses the relationship between emotional exhaustion and turnover intention among employees in various industries. Through an empirical perspective, the study emphasizes the significance of managing emotional exhaustion to reduce turnover intention and enhance job satisfaction.
Lastly, the sixth article delves into the challenges faced by a Japan-based recruitment agency and provides strategic recommendations. The article highlights the competitive nature of the recruiting sector and emphasizes the importance of establishing solid organizational concepts and corporate values to provide stakeholders with value and satisfaction.
We hope that the articles presented in this inaugural issue of the Multidisciplinary Journal of Sustainability inspire further research, dialogue, and action in the pursuit of sustainable practices.
