Opportunities exist to participate in research throughout the calendar year in the Hamilton Lab. During the fall and spring, students can participate in student-faculty research for academic credit (BI 465, 466) or for no-credit. Due to the molecular nature of the lab, most students should plan to take Molecular Genetics (BI 207) and Developmental Biology (BI 306).
Research continues through the summer, and internal and external funding opportunities exist to help financially support students to stay on campus and conduct research over the summer.
The field of regeneration is a fascinating area of study for students, because it is an intersection of many disciplines within the fields of biology and chemistry, including: Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology, and Animal Biology. Conducting research in this field gives students opportunities to attack questions from the perspectives that are most interesting to them.
