Parents as Teachers

Ready for school, Ready for Life

About Parents as Teachers Program

Parents as Teachers is a evidence-based model implemented by Iberia R-5 School District and is offered to all families prenatally through kindergarten.

Children's development from the earliest years lays the foundation for what follows. In the U.S., 6 out 10 kids show up to kindergarten unprepared to learn. As their child's first and most important teacher, parents play a crucial role in supporting school readiness. Communities need a proven intervention that better supports parents in promoting their child's health, early development, and learning.

Program services include:

  • Personalized visits by certified Parent Educator, in your home, or school facility. Your parent Educator will provide, information, support, and encouragement, parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

  • Group Meetings. Families come to a central location for fun activities, and informational topics.

  • Screenings: Parents as Teachers provide yearly screenings to give parents the opportunity to see where their child's progress fits in with standardized measures. Yearly hearing and vision screenings.

Home visiting services available from: 8am–6pm, Monday through Saturday.

Visiting at the preschool classroom: 3:30-6:00pm, Monday through Friday, Saturday: 8am-6pm
