Fairhope West Elementary
A vibrant school where students use STEAM to solve problems, create, and lead their own learning.
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as beginning points to guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. This approach helps produce students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These children are 21st century learners, innovators, educators, and leaders. Here at Fairhope West Elementary we are embedding this approach to learning in all classrooms. Using the Engineering Design Process, we are shifting our teaching pedagogy to prepare students for jobs that haven't even been invented yet!
2022 STEAM Leadership Night
As a prekindergarten through grade three school, learning how to read is the foundation for reading to learn in a STEAM school. In 2018, Fairhope Elementary received the Alabama's Top 50 $1 Million Schools for Third Grade Reading Growth award. The school received $25,000.
Again, in January 2020, Fairhope Elementary School and Orange Beach Elementary School, the only two Baldwin County schools, were recognized under the Legislative School Performance Program. The program rewards public schools, based on the school grading system, that demonstrate high performance by being ranked in the top 25 of public schools. The program also recognizes the top 25 schools that have shown the greatest increase in growth in points earned in the fall of 2019 to the fall of 2018. Along with Orange Beach Elementary, Fairhope Elementary will each receive a $5,000 award. WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR TWO SCHOOLS.
