Fifth grade students will begin taking their chromebooks home at the end of each day and over weekends. This will allow students the ability to finish class work at home, even if it is online. Also, this will prepare students for taking their chromebooks home each day in middle school.
Chromebooks should be taken home every night whether the student has homework or not. There will no longer be a charging station in the classroom, so the computer needs to be charged each night at home. This will also make it easier for students to keep up with schoolwork if they are home sick or have to quarantine.
While chromebooks are at home they should be used for school work only. They are still a school device and the district has a right to revoke the privilege of using the device if it is used inappropriately, please ensure that your child is only using their chromebook for school purposes.
IMPORTANT
-If chromebook is not charged each day at school, students will receive a negative Dojo point.
-If students forget their chromebook, they will receive a negative Dojo point and they will borrow a classroom computer.
-Do NOT use the chromebook for anything other than school related material/websites - including while at home
-Any work that we do online will now be expected to be finished at home if not finished in class
-The chromebook is still property of the school and should be taken care of as such
-The chromebook should be used by the student only
In fifth grade, teachers use the Class Dojo online program to keep track of positive and negative points throughout your child’s day. They can earn positive points for many things (positive behavior, helping others, on task, etc.), and they can lose Dojo points for (forgetting materials, disrespect, off task, etc.). You can see your child’s daily Dojo report by downloading the app from the parent letter sent home.
Rewards:
-15 positive points or more per week with 3 or less negative points = candy
- 20 or more positive points and no negatives = Tiger Ticket and entry on the Tiger Board
-50 points or more per month earns the “secret” monthly reward at the end of the month
All homework and announcements can be located in your child's assignment notebook. Homework is due first thing in the morning of each due date. If homework is not turned in first thing in the morning students will receive a late grade. The due date of an assignment will be posted otherwise if not due the following morning.
If a student does not turn in his/her homework on time, that student will receive a“Homework Not Done” notification. This slip is to be taken home and signed by a parent/guardian and returned the next school day to the teacher who gave it. If a student fails to return a signed slip, that student will receive another “Homework Not Done” notification. There will also be another notification given if the assignment that is missing is not turned in the next school day. If a student gets three “Homework Not Done” notifications in one school week, that student will receive an after school detention.
