I am a Senior at Iowa State University. I transferred from Central College where I used to be a student athlete. I am an Electrical Engineer in the Power Systems program, and I am unsure of my future career path.
Firstly, I want people to know I don't love anything more than my friends and family. I am for sure a people person, and pride myself in that. Secondly, I want others to know that I am a hobbyist. Currently I love: Video games, disc golf, intramurals, backpacking, camping, hiking, longboarding, collecting records, and playing various stringed instruments including the guitar, and watching movies.
As a child I was fascinated with a few things. Sports, friends, and toys. When I say toys I specifically mean RC cars. I can remember taking one apart and wondering what I was looking at. I can't say since that day that I planned on being an engineer, but that is an example of fascination that I remember about myself. I was looking at the mechanical servos and circuits in the RC car and trying to figure out how it worked. I often use this example in explaining my degree choice at Iowa State. I do not have a current plan of where I want to go in life, as I have a lot of undefined interests. However, I do plan on helping people with the rest of my life, however that may be.
Aside from that story, I grew up with an average (above average in my eyes) middle-class family. My sister, Kelsey, mother Lori, and (late) father Kelly. My sister and I were born and raised on being excellent athletes. I was an avid baseball player, and soon to be football player. My family and I have traveled across the country multiple times to compete in sports. This experience not only taught me how to work with people, but how to be a teammate and network with others... and I suppose being a great athlete as well. I took my sporting passions to college and played Division 3 football for 2 seasons.
This lifestyle has led me to be the man I am today. I'll put it as modest as possible, but I try to be kind, friendly, happy, and helping to others. On top of this, I am a very open person. I accept constructive criticism well, and can talk about anything on the spot. I love thought-provoking ideas and conversations, and I am not afraid to explore them. I also content with small talk.
A self-led backpacking trip that we perservered through
June 2019
Now you sort of know who I am, let me tell you about what I do. I love to play Xbox. I've been an avid gamer since my mom bought me a PS1 in 2003. It was a purchase that would change my life. I fell in love with Dave Mira's BMX right away. Being able to fulfil my dream of being flight-capable on a "trick" bike was mesmerizing, at the time I personally wasn't very aerodynamic. This passion of living out a fantasy, any fantasy, on a TV screen has followed me throughout my life. I've been a gamer across multiple platforms and hundreds of different games throughout the years. I'm currently invested in Apex Legends and Borderlands 3. Feel free to ask me about my gaming passions.
Another thing I took up was the great outdoors. While bedridden from a devastating knee injury in 2016 I decided spontaneously that hiking through the wilderness with a general idea of where you're going, for days at a time was a good idea. In other words, getting lost. This urge sparked from the idea that nature is the all-knowing force in life, despite of how many calculations we do. Nature will always offer something that we can only understand with our eyes. Understand is an exaggeration here. I have been on a few trips with ISU, but ran my first trip with my best friend Corbin, sister Kelsey, and her now husband Matt. I plotted a course through the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Despite the many, MANY hiccups that happened, we survived and we enjoyed ourselves. However, I cannot speak for everyone. Backpacking is a hobby that I will pursue for the remainder of my life. There is a Colorado trip on the horizon.
Following culture media, I have a deep passion for movie watching. Movies are an alternative to video games. In this area, professional cinematographers create these fantastical pictures right in front of you. They use emotion and color to inspire you. I can't narrow it down to a ranked list (I've loved hundreds of movies), but I can tell you a few of my favorites from all-time of the top of my head:
Again, feel free to mention more movies to me from my contact page.
Lastly, music is another thing I take pride in. I was raised a music lover. My sister and dad combined had 3-4,000 songs imported into our first iTunes library. From here on out, I have listened to music everyday since I can remember. In the past few years I have evolved (or devolved) into being a 1970's rock n' roll expert. Aside from this magical musical era, I listen to rock from all decades, including brand new, alternative, some hip/hop, and EDM music. A gigantic passion of mine is sharing my music taste, and accepting musical recommendations. My senior design group accidentally/coincidentally ended up together because of this fact. We are all music buffs.

The list could go on forever.
