Batterer’s Intervention Programs (BIPs) are one community partner within a larger system of accountability for those who choose to use violence or the threat of violence to gain control over their intimate partners. BIPs deliver education intended to promote behavioral changes that will increase victim safety and offender well-being. The programs provide opportunities to understand the abusive nature of their behavior and the effects of their violence on their families. For those who choose to be accountable for their actions and want to change, this education helps them make progress in every aspect of their lives. BIPs increase opportunities for victims and their children to access services and support and to plan for their safety. BIPs engage system partners and local community members to establish coordinated community responses to this violence in order to decrease tolerance for domestic violence.
