Welcome and thank you for your curiosity & desire to change the world!

Among climate change impacts, sea level rise stands out because even if we stopped burning fossil fuels right now, global oceans would continue to absorb excess heat, expand, and rise for centuries. Until we reverse greenhouse gas emissions, sea level rise is among the more certain climate change impacts—it’s not a question of if, but when.

EcoAdapt, a non-profit organization committed to making climate change adaptation happen, received support from the Bainbridge Community Foundation to engage the Bainbridge Island community in developing local solutions to the effects of sea level rise impacts. They expanded this work to develop the infographic on the ferry passenger walkway.

EcoAdapt collaborated with students at Hyla School and Washington State Ferries to plan and design this art aimed at raising awareness and encouraging action to address sea level rise. We're grateful for funding from Sustainable Bainbridge to complete the installation.

Walkway Graphic

On June 25, 2024, we installed the sea level rise graphics on the overhead walkway at the Bainbridge Ferry Terminal. Some of our project participants, from left to right in this photograph: Diane Landry, Sustainable Bainbridge Board President; Lara Hansen, Executive Director, EcoAdapt; Deb Rudnick, Senior Scientist, EcoAdapt; Naomi Samant and Grace Bonow, Hyla Upper School; Adrienne Stute, WSF Biologist.
