Join Hygge Sports Club, a flexible, drop-in sports club for high school students in Tokyo.
Designed for fun, inclusivity, and skill-building, our events bring together a multi-cultural community to play sports like soccer, basketball, and volleyball in a welcoming environment.
Hygge Sports Club (Hygge S.C.) was first thought of as a necessary organization and space by Nikolai Kawabata Jessen-Petersen. Nikolai teaches and coaches at an international school in the Tokyo area, and realized a while ago that there weren't enough opportunities for high school students to play sports for fun outside of school, where language barriers are also potentially not an issue, and with a coach available. As a result, Nikolai decided to start Hygge S.C., which provides drop-in sports opportunities for different levels and types of sports.
Hygge S.C. provides these opportunities through organized participation in pick-up sports events in the Tokyo community, as well as through gym/field bookings that are held for exclusively Hygge S.C. participants. Hygge S.C., in its current and early form, aims to provide opportunities for students to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Hygge S.C. may try to expand into other activity and sports areas in the future.
