MISSION

The Emeralds Virtual Art Center provides a sharing place to inspire new art forms, acknowledge and celebrate students’ diverse ambitions. Emeralds is committed to providing resources to cultivate passion for art, music, performance, and writing.

ABOUT EMERALDS

Since the 1970s, Emeralds Magazine has showcased the art and  writing of Minnechaug High School students. Over time, the magazine containing poetry, plays, stories, essays and pen-and-ink drawings transformed from entirely black-and-white, to full colorThe magazine has been awarded year after year for the creative works within it, ranked for "outstanding writing" and recommended for "Highest award" by the National Council of English, and awarded "Gold" and "Silver" awards from Columbia Scholastic Press Association

In 2020,  the COVID19 outbreak sent students home for schooling, and with that challenge, the Emeralds staff was unable to create a magazine--this being the first time Emeralds was not published since its original publication.  However, from time away from our usual ways to create a magazine, students began envisioning something new. That something is what Emeralds Magazine became: Emeralds Virtual Art Center!

Sincerely,

Emeralds Team
