At Heron Way Primary School we are proud of our inclusive ethos. We aim to support every child so that they can achieve their best. All pupils at Heron Way receive quality teaching using a range of approaches to ensure that your child has a curriculum that matches their needs. In order to do this some children may need additional support during their time at school. Our school Special Needs and Disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs. Moseley and our governor with responsibility for SEND is Mr. Stuart Mills. Mrs. Moseley and Mr. Mills can be contacted via the school office - please see our contacts page by clicking the button below
The SEN information - outlined in schedule 1 of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations (2014) can be found below
Heron Way Primary School welcomes applications from all families, including those with children who have disabilities or additional needs. Admissions are managed in line with the school’s admissions policy and statutory guidance. Children with disabilities are not treated less favourably in the admissions process. Where a place is available, the school works closely with parents and the local authority to make reasonable adjustments to support access and inclusion. For pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), placements are agreed in consultation with the local authority in line with statutory procedures
We are committed to ensuring that pupils with disabilities are fully included in all aspects of school life. Reasonable adjustments are made to teaching, learning and the wider curriculum to enable pupils to access learning alongside their peers. This includes personalised support, adapted resources, flexible approaches to teaching and close collaboration with parents and external professionals. Pupils with disabilities are supported to take part in trips, clubs and enrichment activities wherever possible, and decisions are made with the child’s wellbeing, dignity and inclusion at the centre
The school environment is designed to be as accessible as possible. Our Accessibility Plan sets out how we continue to improve access to the physical environment, curriculum and information. This includes step-free access to most areas of the school, adapted facilities where required, specialist equipment and resources, individual access arrangements and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for pupils who need them. The Accessibility Plan is reviewed regularly to ensure it reflects the needs of our school community and guides ongoing improvements
